The
2016 Bird Park Summer Concerts are well into planning for their 14th
year and the North Park Community Association (NPCA) is asking for the
community's assistance in funding these popular neighborhood
celebrations. These concerts promote feelings of community in that
families and neighbors come together from all areas of North Park to
visit with friends, enjoy a family experience, and/or to meet new
acquaintances and neighbors. Feelings of community are promoted through
this experience of being able to relax, visit and friends, engage in
family experiences, and to dance or just listen to the “live” band’s
music from the stage. The concerts occur at Bird Park (corner of Upas,
Pershing, and 28th Streets) with great views of Morley Field, downtown
San Diego and the ocean beyond.
We
are fundraising for this summer's concerts. NPCA has been able to
continue the yearly concerts because of the generous and ongoing support
of our local businesses and residents. Each concert draws 800 to 1,000
attendees and provides excellent publicity to its sponsoring businesses,
organizations, and residents.
In
the past, each concert cost about $3,500 to produce which covers the
live bands, stages, sound system, facilities, insurance, permits,
advertising, etc. We have received news of an increase in City Permit
fees which will bring the costs to almost $4,000.
This is your opportunity to support the North Park Community
Association, a 501c3 organization to assist with producing this concert
season. NPCA is an all-volunteer organization, so all funds raised, go
to concert expenses. We invite you to assist by donations and also
personally volunteering to assist with the day of concert production.
So that we can ensure maximum exposure for your business, organization
or Neighborhood Area - May 15 is the Deadline for communications about donations. If you have any questions, please contact us: concerts@northparksd.org or call us at 800-413-NPCA (6722).
Thank you so much for your support. We hope you will join us for a FUN and EXICITNG summer in North Park.

It
was a store opening that shoppers in La Mesa thought would never
happen. "It was frustrating," said Laurie Stroberg. "Nobody could do
anything to keep it here." Stroberg is talking about the Vons that

The
so-called "warrant scam" is happening right now in many counties,
including San Diego County, according to the San Diego County District
Attorney's Office. It starts with a startling phone call alerting you
have a warrant out for your arrest. Scammers instill fear in you to get
you to act without thinking.
